Native Americans Against Obama- The Buffalo War

I have to say this is a issue close to my heart.  The number of bison slaughtered each year continues to grow.  I am sure many will say, that this has nothing to do with Obama.  I happen to disagree, because he could help.  But only, if he chooses to.  A bill was introduced in 2005 The Yellowstone Buffalo Preservation Act (HR 2428)

The health and well-being of the last surviving wild population of bison in the United States depends on what happens next. Though no legislative action has been taken by the subcommittee, Congress has requested the General Accounting Office to investigate and report on Yellowstone bison management and a $13 million dollar taxpayer financed agreement to protect 6,770 acre of habitat for wildlife on the Royal Teton Ranch.

However, this bill has gone no where.  It was sent to sub committee in 03/07.  So Obama could step in and see to it, to help save the buffalo. A new Bill could be introduced, or he could stand behind us and take the lead contacting the subcommittee and letting them know he supports this issue in order to stop the slaughter.  Our Nations bison are a national treasure, and should not be killed.  They are as important to this country, as the bald eagle.

There was a time, when they roamed the Americas.  The thunderbeast, gave life to many of our people.  In the 19th century, the buffalo were hunted to almost extinction.  We cannot let that happen again.

This is not a issue where Obama did not vote.  The bill has never made it any further than the house.  So, I am sure that Obama supporters will say, there is nothing he can do.  I disagree, he could draft a new bill, or reach out to subcommittee members.  There is a reason I do not think he will.  Its because killing of the bison, is what some ranchers want.

A handful of ranchers graze cattle on public and private land adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. The Montana Department of Livestock (MDOL) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) claim that these cattle are at risk of contracting brucellosis from Yellowstone’s buffalo, a disease originally brought to wildlife from European cattle. It is extremely important to note that there has never been a documented case of a wild buffalo transmitting brucellosis to livestock. Brucellosis is a disease that can cause spontaneous abortions in cattle. The state of Montana on behalf of the livestock industry has killed more than 3200 buffalo since 1985 based on the unsubstantiated fear that Yellowstone buffalo will transmit brucellosis to cattle. There has, however, never been a confirmed case of brucellosis transmission from buffalo to cattle under natural conditions. Indeed, in Grand Teton National Park, where infected buffalo and livestock have co-mingled for more than 45 years, there has not been a single incident of disease transmission.

I am sure Obama supporters will also say, why hasn’t McCain done anything, and the video does not mention him.  That is true, I do not deny that. However, we are trying to point out Obama made a promise, to stand behind Native American Issues.

We are asking Obama to full fill his promise.  This is what he said to us.  “I want you to know that I will never forget you,” he said. The United States government cannot undo wrongs against Indian peoples, he said But they can elect a president committed to do what’s right for Native Americans.s and sisters”.

“And since now I’m a member of the family you know I won’t break my promises to my brother

So far, Obama has done nothing to fillfull this promise.  Words, are just that, words.  Without action, they have no meaning…….

  1. When I was a young child many moons ago, I lived in Lawton, Oklahoma. It was so peaceful and my pass time was collecting grasshoppers to feed them to my turtles. I went to a school named after a Indian Warrior. I love those days, and that is why I respect the Native American. I grew up with them in the Western states while my army family was station in the Forts along the Indian boundaries. What lovely dances, what lovely customs! What lovely people. Even now, we live among the Floridian Indians, and I never miss a day of festivale. So with my faith talking to the Native Indians , I say, “Let us so order our lives and so discipline our minds that each day of the week will be a preparation for a truly spirtual war with these evildoers of astray children that have risen from the pits of hell. All of the hurts, the bruises, the disappointments, the sorrows, and the dismay that we felt when our golden girl was cheated out of her journey is over but yet Not over, but, not without a fight. Paint your faces, Indian Pen soldiers, and get ready to fight for our land again! For we can hear the heartbreaking sobs of our faithful ones, that love our Purple Land of America, and we must gather our warriors against those who wish to take her.

    G-D bless our first warriors!

  2. I actualy knew a Real Chief , working in Houston to send Money home to the Reservation , his description was unbelievable , then he showed me his Family and Reservation , blew my mind ! This may sound to simple but why are some Native Americans that Happen to be next to Water , with Casinos Why is that money not shared or Tax deferred to the needy American Natives , I find this so crazy , most people I know that have even a small amount of blood line are so proud , even know you cant tell by looking at them they all wear the fact they have Native American Blood in them , even Oprah had claimed that but not sure what came back on her DNA Test. Obama has proven time and time to be a Hypocrite , he will say anything to get elected , then Votes to the right . I don’t get it , I saw a show in this long ago , it was a disgrace then but we were all lead to belive help was on the way . Obama must not with the Nomination , many are now leaving him he was an unknown , now we are learning he is for Obama . We must have Democratic Reform . Demand Hillary , we will partition her to help . My Great Grandparents migrated to the USA from England , Italy and Germany around 1910 , none were slave Owners yet I have been accused lately of being Descendents of Slave owners, some new idea in Vogue now , I do not like that , Slaves were usualy treated better then Native Americans , that says volumes not much progress has been made , Isolated in Poverty , Alcoholism is full blown and would be the same no matter what Ethnic , Racial group , White, Black anyone placed in those horrible circumstances would fair the same . Poverty with no hope dose not discriminate like a disease .
    This is a imoral .

  3. Haven’t we all learned as of yet, That as long as Native American are prisioners on these so called resevervations that we are no more that the dirt they walk on. Greed is an ugly word, but yet it started when they come here from abroad, and the native people gave them food, housing, clothes, and taught them how to survive. And yet they still take more and more from us. Why? Is it because we let them? No!It’s there Greed. We celebrate our traditions through Powwow, they couple those actions in there own way and change the ceremonies to fit there needs and to make money in the name of Native Americans, do we let them? No! They do it in the name of Greed. We teach them how to live in peace, do they No! all in the name of Greed. We want to practice our Native Tounge, do they let us, No! Only in ceremony or behind closed doors on the resevations. And my favorite one of all My grandmother was a Princess.. Well if she was, congradulations to England. We have more rights taken away from us than any other people in these so called United States, but yet we live like a third world country, why? Greed! For our land, our way of life, our ceremonies, our since of family, OUR Pride. Talk is cheap, words are just that “words”,Where is the Honor of keeping a Promise.

  4. I have much more to say but I can’t write a book. People do not let any more be taken from us the founding people who have given so much.
